Why is one competitor missing data?
If most of your analysis looks healthy but one competitor's column is empty or generic, the cause is almost always one of three things.
- The site blocks automated access. Some companies (often large brands) actively block automated readers. We get little or nothing from their pages. If this affects a key competitor, try replacing them with a similar company that has a more accessible site.
- The URL doesn't exist or no longer works. This sometimes happens when a suggested competitor no longer operates or has rebranded. Click the source link on any data point. If it 404s or the company doesn't look real, drop the competitor.
- The site is very thin. Early-stage companies, single-page sites, and login-gated apps don't give the analysis much to work with.
To fix:
- Remove the competitor from step 2 Competitors and either add a different one, or leave the slot empty if no better rival fits. See how do I add or remove competitors?.
- Select Reanalyze in step 3 Analysis to run a fresh analysis with the updated list. See how do I re-run an analysis?.
If you're sure the URL is correct and the site is public, contact us with the project link and which competitor is missing.
